The word that I have known to pronounce and claimed to understand almost all my life but did not realize it does not define me.
Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.
I find myself lacking in this area. The quality of being honest is not up to date because I am sometimes dishonest with myself, and when it comes to moral principles, mine are weak.
I wish, and I would like to build my integrity beginning with myself, and I want to do that now. But where do I start from, and how do I start?
And I noted a few lines that appealed to me as below;
A few weeks ago, I came across a book titled: “The Law of Small things” by Stuart H. Brody.
- To make integrity count in our lives, we need to count on promises.- This is powerful and can make a difference in my life and the life of people around me.
- Discernment is the skill of counting promises.- I should not just count promises, but I should be able to make sound judgments.
- Start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can.- I do not have to wait for tomorrow or wait until I have something more than I do now.
- Integrity is not a state of moral perfection; it is a commitment to engagement.
- Intergrity calls us to a practice and encourages us to make the practice a habit.
- When you make a promise that you later want to break, the practice of integrity requires that you ask to be released from it.
- The duty to community promotes trust in the common institutions on which we all depend.
- Saying that something is too small to matter is the winning argument we have with ourselves to breach the duties of integrity.
Well, I’m still reading the book, but so far, I have felt the impact on my life, and I want to change my life henceforth. If you feel the same way, feel free to comment and share your advice. I will be more than glad to learn from you.
